Salman Khan has been selected as the goodwill brand ambassador for the Indian contingent for Olympics to be held Rio De Janeiro, Brazil by Indian Olympic Association. He will travel with the Indian contingent to Rio. MC Mary Kom (Boxer), Sardar Singh (Hockey Captain), Abhinav Bindra (Shooter, not in pic) shown in the above photograph have welcomed the decision. According to them it will boost their morale.
On the other hand Yogeshwar Dutt (Wrestler), Milkha Singh (Athlete), Sorabh Pant (Comedian) are not happy with IOA’s decision. From their perspective Salman Khan is not a sportsman and hence he should not be the ambassador instead a sportsman should be selected.
Can we make a sportsman Filmfare anchor? Such positions should only be given to people who are highly respected in that field for their work. Also Salman Khan has charges on him like “Hit And Run Case” due to which he is criticized by many Indians.
Also it is said that he is there only to promote his upcoming film “Sultan” in which he has played the role of a wrestler.
Now let’s look at the opinions of people in favor of IOA’s decision. From the marketing point of view Salman is a very good choice since he has a huge number of fans and followers in and outside the country. Since he’s upcoming film is related to sports his selection was a good decision.
The media in this country is too fond of fimstars and less of sports (except Cricket). Wherever filmstars go media will always be there to cover the news. Hence Salman will bring a lot of media to Rio which will help sportsmen in India to get visibility. Otherwise there is a very less chance of media giving that level of importance to a sportsperson if he is not a cricketer.
